With Siri, Alexa, and Google controlling our homes (and let’s face it the majority of our lives) you might wonder if your pets can benefit from some of these smart home features and advances in technology. The answer to this is a resounding yes! That’s why we’ve rounded up some of the best and most helpful smart home devices for your pet.

Furbo Dog Camera

Use your cell phone to see your dog, toss treats and even say hello! The Furbo can even send alerts to let you know if your dog is barking, someone is in your home or an alarm is going off. Keep your dog safe and well-fed when you’re on the go! Bonus: It pairs with Amazon’s Alexa!

PetSafe Smart Feed 2.0 Wifi-Enabled Automatic Dog & Cat Feeder

This incredible feeder allows you to schedule your pet’s meals up to 12 times a day in sizes from 1/8 cup to 4-cups per meal. You can even use the Slow Feed setting to serve meals in small amounts over 15 minutes, to keep your dog from eating too quickly. Need to dispense a full meal? Use the feed now option for dinner on demand. You can feed your pet directly from your iPhone or Android phone and the device is compatible with Alexa. Since we’re focusing on smart technology it’s worth mentioning that the feeder will let you know when it’s low on food!

Autoslide Elite Dog Door with K9 Tag

Do you spend most of your day letting your dog in and out the door to your yard? The Autoslide Elite Dog Door can do the heavy lifting for you. A tag on your dog’s collar opens the door so that your dog can go in and out as they please (Ollie note, we don’t recommend letting your dog outside unsupervised).

DogTV

If you are returning to the office or have to leave your dog alone for a few hours, consider a subscription to DogTV. This 24/7 channel provides mental stimulation and company for your pup. They say, “Through years of research by some of the world’s top pet experts, special content was created to meet specific attributes of a dog’s sense of vision and hearing and supports their natural behavior patterns. The result: a confident, happy dog, who’s less likely to develop stress, separation anxiety or other related problems.”

Zen Dog Crate

Another product designed to help your pup with separation anxiety is the Zen Dog Crate. The crate’s features can also help pups who are afraid of loud noises like thunder and fireworks. It features a camera, motion sensor, music, sound insulation, and vibration dampening legs. It can even block out some of the light. For your pup’s comfort and safety it has a detachable door. Your dog will feel calmer and safer in this crate designed to block out the outside world and soothe them with music chosen based on research studies.

iRobot Roombas9 Self-Emptying Robot Vacuum and Braava Jet m6 Robot Mop Bundle

For the pet parent on the go who doesn’t want to spend all their free time cleaning up. This vacuum and mop are smart enough to do it themselves. Bundling these products together allows you to use their app to create the perfect cleaning routine. Looking for something a little more budget-friendly or want to go top of the line? Take the iRobot quiz to find the right products for your home!

Bissell Little Green Pet Pro Portable Carpet Cleaner

For pet messes including urine and vomit, consider adding a Bissell Little Green Pet Pro Portable Carpet Cleaner to your cleaning supplies. The machine can get urine, vomit and other pet messes out of carpets, upholstery, and even those hard-to-wash dog beds. The machine will set you back less than $200 and can end up saving you thousands by getting tough stains and smells out of your home textiles. Bissell has a line of pet stain and urine removers that are designed to get the job done without destroying your fabric. (Pro tip: test on an inconspicuous area before broadly treating fabric to ensure that it won’t cause any discoloration.)

Fi Series 2 Collar

If you have a dog who is more of an escape artist, consider the Fi Smart Dog Collar. This GPS-enabled collar can help you quickly reunite with your lost pup. In addition to tracking, Fi’s app can alert you if your dog leaves your back yard – saving you precious time when working to bring them back. For active dogs the collar also works as a fitness tracker, counting your pup’s steps. The stylish collar has a built-in LED light for additional visibility at night. Note that to use the collar you need to purchase a GPS plan along with it ($99/year with discounts available for paying for 2 or three years). The GPS plan does have a 30-day free trial.

Tips for using tech with your pup

While technology can make your life easier, you want to make sure you’re keeping your dog safe when you use it. This means checking to make sure your dog isn’t chewing on wires or eating plastic pieces. If you are using an automatic door opener, make sure your fencing is secure and that someone is supervising your dog outside to avoid the risk of injury or theft. With technology that uses sound or light, introduce your dog to the technology slowly. Beeping and loud noises can startle or scare your dog, making them avoid the technology.
