They don’t call it the dog days of summer for nothin’, right? It’s prime time to skip town with your pup—though you obviously want to take them someplace they’ll be not just welcomed but treated like, well, humans. We rounded up some of our current favorites for summer, 2016. Bone voyage.
Hotel Van Zandt in Austin, Texas
Just opened in January, the hotel has a rock-n-roll vibe and welcomes pets of all shapes and sizes to stay for free—no extra fees! Pack light: The property loans out plush pet beds, water bowls and mats. Every night, pets and their humans are invited to the hotel’s complimentary happy hour where pups enjoys treats while you sip the local Pecan Porter brew on tap.
Cypress Inn in Carmel, California
Actress and animal-rights activist Doris Day co-owns this boutique inn, which welcomes all breeds of pets for a $30 fee. The quaint oceanside town is a pup’s paradise: On nearby Carmel Beach, your four-legged friend can roam leash-free and go swimming—and you’ll spot water bowls and doggie treats at many of the local businesses.
Soho Grand Hotel in New York City
The biggest pup perk here? It’s probably the chic private dog park that’s open sunrise to 9 p.m. to hotel guests only, replete with fire hydrant water stations. The hotel also boasts organic treats from Bocce’s Bakery, bedding, bowls and doggy bags. You can also request a pet goldfish to keep your pup company. It’s NYC canine hospitality at its finest.
Loews Miami Beach in Miami, Florida
You know you’re in the right place when the hotel’s motto is Pets Are People Too. Upon check-in, your pup receives welcome gifts including a name tag, bowl, and special treats. When it’s time to chow down, order from the gourmet room service menu for pets, which was developed by the hotel’s chefs and a veterinarian. Ask the concierge for a list of local pet-friendly restaurants (though they also offer in-room pet-sitting.)
The Pines Lodge in Beaver Creek, Colorado
At this resort, located in the middle of aspen groves overlooking Beaver Creek Mountain, dogs are in their outdoor element. Splurge on the “Pines Pup Bucket List” package ($300 per night), and your dog gets a GoPro rental to record hikes and other adventure, plus a massage, bath, and blowout at the spa, and a nightly rawhide bone turndown service.
